"I supported and spoke on behalf of HB 224 which would repeal mandatory sentencing guidelines for elective 3rd trimester abortion and would return oversight back to the medical board. This portion of the fetal life protection act is legislative overreach and borderline unconstitutional. It will harm women with high-risk pregnancies by exacerbating shortages of obstetricians and fetal-maternal specialists. As there has been no 3rd trimester elective abortion in this state in the past 50 years, the previous statute worked fine. This portion of the act is a 'solution looking for a problem,' while creating a much bigger problem and it needs to be changed."
